NY State Trooper Shoots Armed Man Who Brandished Weapon in Parking Lot

Saratoga County, N.Y. — On September 11, 2024, New York State Police Troopers responding to a 911 call, followed 48-year-old James Dellea as he drove to and parked in a parking lot on State Route 9. The troopers approached Dellea while he sat in his car, holding a long gun. The troopers surrounded the car as they made repeated demands for Dellea to get out. Dellea continued to refuse to leave his vehicle despite police commands, and troopers noticed Dellea had a firearm. During the encounter, Dellea then break the glass of the passenger side window with the long gun. Dellea then brandished the firearm, and Trooper Brian Rudolph fired his weapon, striking Dellea. Three gunshots were fired. Dellea was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers recovered one long gun at the scene.
