Jacksonville Police Shoot Suspect Armed With Butter Knife Trying to Stab Man

Jacksonville, Florida — On October 28 2024, shortly after 8:30 p.m. Officers J. Rose and J. Montgomery with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, responded to a carjacking call on Grothe Street. As Officer Rose gathered information from the carjacking victim, bystanders alerted him to a man with a knife. Officer Rose, and Officer Montgomery, who was working from her vehicle, saw a man assaulting another man with a knife, attempting to stab the man in the head. Both officers discharged their weapons after he failed to comply with commands to drop the knife. He died at the scene. The suspect was later identified as 54-year-old Djuan Jackson, who had a lengthy criminal history, including multiple crimes such as aggravated assault, drug sales, and domestic battery. He was just released from a 5-year prison sentence in June. Witnesses reported that he approached the carjacking victim’s family with the knife, showed aggression toward a juvenile and then attempted to stab an adult. Detectives located a metal knife, identified as a butter knife, at the scene.
